As a teacher, her mission in life is giving joy and power through the dance. She affirms, "They become more assertive through freedom of expression. Dancers have that attitude when they are dancing. Dancing gives you that mind- body-spirit connection. You get stronger and more powerful."
Lucila Velez specializes in many Middle
Eastern bellydancing and Latin American dance styles. Her extensive repertoire and years of dedicated dance background allow her to elevate the art of both teaching and dancing beyond simply a classroom environment. Lucila uses her impressive background in dance to combine traditional teaching methods with exciting choreography.
She has studied traditional forms with master dancers in the Middle East, Europe, South America, and the USA. Her knowledge and expertise encompass many styles including: Ghawazee, Turkish karshilimar, Moroccan Sword, Egyptian Cane, Egyptian Pharaohnic, Gypsy Tambourine, Cape, Veil, Fire Dance, Gypsy Flamenco, and the popular Latin dances: Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Samba, and Bolero.
Through a lifetime of commitment and love, Lucila has developed into an energetic, caring teacher and an outstanding entertainer whose performances have delighted a wide variety of audiences. This incredibly wide range of knowledge, combined with her energy and skill, has won her numerous awards throughout the years; the most recent including “Best Bellydance Instructor” by the Austin Chronicle, Second Place “Favorite Entertainer” in the Austin Motorola Marathon, and a position as officer for the Austin Bellydance Association.
